Forget high-tech cars that can go up to 300 km an hour, forget racing tracks with monster groups of technicians and mechanics at the pit stop. The charm of the Biondetti Trophy is completely different.
The Trofeo Biondetti is the historical reenactment of races which took place in the province of Lucca from 1926 to 1938. Forty extremely rare cars will travel along the roads of Versilia, Lucca, Capannori and other places in Tuscany to celebrate Clemente Biondetti, a driving ace who, among other victories, won the Mille Miglia three consecutive times, in ’47 ’48 and ’49.
The auto manufacturers competing in the Trophy come from all over Europe and represent the excellence in auto making at the beginning of the 1900s. Get ready to admire up close beauties by Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Siata, Vermorel, Riley, Daimler, De Coucy, Bentley, Ballot, and many others. The only restriction: the must have been produced until 1959.
Have a look at the Video of the cars leaving from Piazza del Giglio, in front of Hotel Universo, last year.
The 2012 edition also focuses its attention on fashion. In addition to time trials, a new award will be handed out linked to the clothing and accessories that were trendy in the competition years. The crews to best interpret the race era in all its aspects, not only the car but also the dress style, will receive an award.
During the race, exhibitions will be organized exhibitions in many squares of Lucca and you will be able to see some of the cars that made history up close.
If you are passionate about cars, but also pilots, and wish to take part, registrations are still open and close on May 31, 2012.
